Security has always been an important factor on the internet especially with web hosting accounts. Over the past year we have been implementing more and more security features to ensure that Rediweb Hosting clients receive the best level of protection available to them, and one that often causes users some confusion is the FTP Locking function.
Error message when trying to upload files
To upload files to your Web Hosting Account, you will need to have full ftp access. If you use your desktop software to upload your files you may well receive a message that says access denied, password incorrect, not available and a whole variety of other options. Although this could simply be a sign that you have entered incorrect details into your upload fields, it may well be that you just have not Unlocked Your FTP yet!
Unlocking your ftp access
So how do you do that and why do you have to? Unlocking the ftp function of your web hosting account is simple – as it should be.
- First of all you need to log in to your hosting account using this link (and the details sent to you in your welcome email) or just log in to your customer control panel at Rediweb Hosting, select the Manage Hosting icon and click on the domain name you wish to manage.
- Once you have successfully logged in, over on the right hand side you will see the Unlock FTP window with a few options.
- Select from the list of options as to how long you want access via FTP. You can choose from 1 hour all the way up to 28 days, though we don’t recommend you leave your FTP unlocked any longer than you need to. If you do unlock your FTP for a longer period than was needed, you can simply log in again and click ‘lock’.
- If you require regular access to your ftp account from the same location, you can choose ‘unlock by ip’. This logs you IP address as displayed in the panel and will allow access from that location.
If you have any questions about unlocking your ftp, then you can always raise a support ticket from within your account and we will do our best to answer your questions.
